Blake and Rita Lawrence smiled and clapped as they listened to The Duttons perform Tuesday at Sundial Recreation Center in Sun City.
Besides enjoying the entertainment provided by the group, which appeared as finalists on "America’s Got Talent," the Lawrences visited the Lovin’ Life After 50 Expo to pick up information from a number of vendors providing help on issues from Medicare to staying fit.
The winter visitors from Wisconsin said they know what it’s like to love life after 50 because they’re doing just that.
"You just have to take life as it comes and that’s what we do every day," said Rita Lawrence, who has been married to Blake for 57 years.
The Lovin’ Life After 50 Expo was sponsored by the Foundation for Senior Living, Medicare, Research for Life, Lovin’ Life After 50 and the Daily News-Sun.
Admission to the event was free, and the recreation center remained busy for four hours as thousands streamed into the venue.
Some of those participating in the event included Arizona Estate Planning Group LLC, Banner Health Medisun and The Neptune Society, including cremation and sea scattering services. American Family Chiropractic Center gave massages to visitors as well.
Entertainment included magic by Mike Fisher, singer Jerry Lawson, The Duttons and bingo provided by Apache Gold Casino and Resort near Globe.
Lyle Thompson, a Surprise resident, stood in line at Matzatal Hotel and Casino’s booth to get more information about the resort near Payson. And he took some scratch cards to see if he won any prizes.
Thompson said he was enjoying the expo and loved the theme.
"The secret to loving life after 50 is that you just keep moving," he said with a laugh.
Jane Gilmer, Ms. Senior Arizona 2009, greeted visitors as they entered the expo.
Gilmer said the expo proved to people that you can enjoy life at any age.
"So many people think your life is over after 50, but this just shows there is more to us than just our families and careers," said Gilmer, who crowns the new Ms. Senior Arizona March 27 at North Canyon High School in Phoenix. "We’re vital and have very active lives."
